System Design Engineer - Optics v Brno, Česko

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks a Systems Design Engineer to develop next-generation electron microscopy and Focused Ion Beam instruments. The role involves designing complex optical systems, simulating particle trajectories, and optimizing beam performance through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in Brno.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize complex systems and components for electron microscopy and FIB instruments
• Simulate ion-beam trajectories and evaluate beam performance using electron optical design software
• Apply statistical methods and Design of Experiments to optimize system performance
• Collaborate with physicists, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software developers on integration and validation
• Analyze technical challenges and develop innovative solutions while supporting product quality and reliability

Requirements

• University degree in Physics, Engineering, or related technical field
• 3+ years experience developing complex technical systems, preferably electron microscopy or semiconductor equipment
• Strong knowledge of charged particle optics, electrostatic and magnetic lenses, beam focusing
• Experience with ion-beam simulation and electron optical design software
• Systems engineering principles including requirements management and system architecture
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar technical computing tools
• Experience with high-voltage systems, vacuum technology, precision mechanics, or automation
