The humanitarian and medical organisation, Doctors without borders, opened a Shared IT Service (SITS) centre in Prague in 2019. This centre provides IT support to all interested parties around the world – people sent to missions, operating centres, sections and branch offices.

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, operating and continuously improving secure, reliable and scalable cloud infrastructure services that support SITS and MSF stakeholders globally. Azure is the primary platform focus for this role, while the position is expected to apply cloud-agnostic engineering principles across infrastructure, automation, networking, identity, monitoring, resilience and governance. The role ensures that cloud and infrastructure services are well architected, cost-effective, compliant with organisational standards, and aligned with operational, security and business requirements.

This position reports to the Cloud Infrastructure Team Lead.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, operate and continuously improve secure, resilient and scalable cloud infrastructure services that support MSF operational needs and SITS service commitments
• Translate functional, operational and security requirements into practical infrastructure designs, working closely with application owners, service teams, security, operations and relevant stakeholders
• Build and maintain cloud and infrastructure components across compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, backup, automation and platform services, applying vendor-agnostic engineering principles while supporting the organisation’s current technology standards
• Contribute to cloud architecture, migration and modernisation initiatives by assessing existing environments, identifying dependencies, documenting options and recommending fit-for-purpose technical approaches
• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code, automation scripts, deployment templates and operational runbooks to improve consistency, repeatability, security and efficiency
• Apply cloud governance, security, resilience and compliance controls in line with organisational policies, industry good practice and relevant regulatory expectations
• Monitor service health, capacity, performance, reliability and cost consumption, and recommend improvements that strengthen service quality and operational sustainability
• Support incident, problem and change management processes by providing technical analysis, remediation, documentation and follow-up actions for cloud and infrastructure services
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure infrastructure services are designed, delivered and supported in a way that is transparent, maintainable and aligned with MSF priorities
• Produce clear technical documentation, diagrams, operational guidance and recommendations that can be understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Keep knowledge up to date on cloud infrastructure, automation, security and service management standards, and contribute to the continuous improvement of SITS engineering practices

Requirements

• Bachelors degree or higher in Information Technology stream

• Strong hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure and platform services, including virtual machines, storage, virtual networks, load balancing, private connectivity, backup, recovery, monitoring, application hosting and managed database services.

• Good understanding of Azure identity, access management and security foundations, including Microsoft Entra ID, role-based access control, privileged access, conditional access concepts and integration with enterprise identity services.
• Ability to design and operate secure, reliable and scalable Azure landing zones, subscriptions, resource groups, networking patterns, governance controls and shared infrastructure services.
• Experience translating operational, security and business requirements into practical Azure architectures, technical designs, implementation plans and migration recommendations.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, automation and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Bicep or ARM templates, PowerShell, Bash, Git, Azure DevOps or comparable DevOps toolchains.
• Knowledge of cloud governance and operational standards, including tagging, policy management, cost management, monitoring, logging, backup, disaster recovery, security baselines and change control.
• Experience supporting assessment, proof-of-concept, migration and modernisation activities for workloads moving from traditional infrastructure, hybrid environments or other cloud platforms into Azure.
• Good working knowledge of Windows Server, networking, storage, DNS, certificates, backup and recovery concepts, and hybrid connectivity patterns relevant to enterprise cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to troubleshoot incidents, analyse performance and capacity issues, identify root causes, document remediation actions and contribute to continuous service improvement.
• Strong analytical and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical options, risks and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Who we are
